"'Academy' is an international series of exhibtions and projects initiated by Siemens Art Program and realized in cooperations with teh Kunsteverein in Hamburg, the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths College in London, zhe Museum van Hedemdaagse Kunst Antwerpen, MuHKA, and the Van Abbemuseum in Endhoven."
In a world where criticality, as it Irit Rogoff defines it, is perilously protected by the demands of free market productivity, it is necessary that some public institutions make a plea to be open fields of learning. How are we to set about formulating new questions or articulating incoherent dissatisfaction if we do not make use of such spaces in society? How could we come to know that which we do not yet perceive as possible knowledge, even if we experience something of its lack? The Idea of an academy should be presented here in all its potential, grasped as a source that offers society a chance of critical reflection and the encounter with complex ideas.
