Essay On The Concave City Corner
Stijn van der Linden's photobook is an exploration of how spaces become spaces and how photography can influence this process, presenting a scientifically detailed, in-depth analysis of an urban feature seen in every city: the concave corner.
Drawn from a personal collection of photographs of corners encountered during the photographer’s travels between 2010 and 2017, as well as personal forms of exploration of the transformation from space to place, the publication addresses how the city becomes a place. In the process, it explores how the act of photography can contribute to such corners, viewed as parts of the generic city, becoming more specifically linked to personal experience through spatial and geometrical analysis, colour extraction and analysis, material identification, and more. is a poetic and faux-scientific look on hidden and vague locations in the city.
