Passers-by become ecstatic outsiders. A celebration does not drive people apart, but fuses them and forges them into a close community.
For over ten years, Otto Snoek visualizes the ambivalent relationship between the promise and letdown of our modern way of urban life. With the photographs in WHY NOT he focuses on contemporary forms of leisure time: festivals, soccer games and parties. Looking at these promises of mass culture, Snoek exposes the increasingly commercial character of urban life, as well as people's uniformity in a crowd.
